The Hyundai H-1 is a van built by the Hyundai Motor Company in South Korea and Indonesia. First generation models were distributed in Europe and were known as the Hyundai H-200 in the Netherlands. For the second generation releases, Australian models were sold as the Hyundai iLoad for the cargo version, and Hyundai iMax, the people mover version. European models, the Hyundai i800, like those in Australia are differentiated as the Hyundai H-1 Cargo, for cargo version, and Hyundai H-1 Travel, the people mover version.
The Hyundai H-1 is also produced in China under license from Hyundai by Anhui Jianghuai Automobile under the name Jac Refine since 2002. It is very successful in the Chinese market, with about 20% of minivan sales. It has repeatedly won MPV of the Year from 2003 to 2008 and The Best Official Car award from 2004 to 2008. In 2007, it was acclaimed The Best MPV and The Best MPV for Government.
The first generation Hyundai H-1 was introduced in 1997 and was available in a varied assortment of configurations, including minivan or MPV, minibus, van, pick-up, taxi, and ambulance. It was preliminary powered by a 2.5 liter SOHC 8 valve turbo diesel engine that had an output of 85 hp, and 170m, of torque at 4000 rpm. It came equipped with ABS, LSD, an optional 4 speed automatic transmission, back up sensors and a driver’s side airbag. It could accommodate 10 to 12 people depending on the seating layout.
The Hyundai H-1 2000 version was redesigned with a new front fascia, and offered much more in amenities. A new reconfigured 2.5 DOHC 16 valve common rail direct injection (CRDi) turbo diesel engine was putting out 123 hp, with 360 nm of torque.
The 2nd-generation Hyundai H-1 was introduced in 2007 with larger dimensions and a more powerful CRDi engine. The CRDi engine is an inline 2.5 liter 4 cylinder, with power boosted by a Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT). This force induced engine produced 168hp and up to 392 nm of torque.
The Hyundai H-1 is delightfully practical, with big doors that slide open on both sides, making entry into the rear of the van very easy. The rear door opens vertically, providing a very wide and effortlessly accessible loading. The H-1, like most vans, has folding seats that give way for larger luggage capacity. If the luggage area is used to its fullest capacity, it can provide a massive 5.2 cubic. The Hyundai H1 can definitely fit a number of passenger and luggage carrying capacities.
Inside, woven cloth seats are skillfully crafted, provide ample support and positively fit to the shape of the passenger’s body with ease. Any driver will appreciate the height adjustable driver’s seat with fold down arm rests, which can also be found in the front passenger seat. The two-tone interior features power windows in the front, and a powerful 4 speaker MP3 ready sound system, which also comes provided with an auxiliary input jack. The air conditioning system is equipped with a pollen filter. The Hyundai H-1 has many practically placed storage compartments for both the front and rear occupants.
The 3rd generation H-1 possesses an all new body and two engine options, a base 2.5 liter SOHC 8 valve turbo diesel engine with 110 hp and 232 nm of torque, and a 2.5 liter DOHC 16 valve common rail direct injection with variable geometry turbo. The 2.5 DOHC puts out 174 hp and 402 nm of torque. The top of the line H-1 model has standard features such as a leather interior, split and fold seats, an overhead console, aluminum accents, automatic climate control, all power features, DVD player with 6 speakers, keyless entry and engine immobilizer. Some Hyundai H-1 has optional luxuries like 7 inch LCD panel and fully equipped body kit.
With all the weight that the Hyundai H-1 can carry onboard, it is reassuring to know that it comes equipped with ABS, ESP and two front airbags as standard equipment.
The Hyundai H1 has a style that distinguishes itself from other big vans on the streets. Hyundai has gone to great lengths to manufacture a well engineered and well designed van for use as a multi-purpose vehicle.
Since its introduction in 1997, the H-1 has won many car awards in various countries that it is marketed. Some of these awards are Best Large MPV for the Autocar Asean 2008, 1st Place Luxury MPV Category in Asian Auto Bosch Fuel Efficiency 2008 with a fuel efficiency of 8.5l/100 km. It also bagged Car of the Year Award in the large MPV category in the New Straits Times / Maybank. The Hyundai H-1 is also sold with the longest warranty, a 5 Year, 300,000 km warranty.
